KENNETH N. "Butch" ABELE, 84, of Hernando, passed away on Saturday, May 29, 2010 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Desoto. He spent his early years in Whitehaven, and after graduation he joined the United States Air Force. He was a World War II Veteran, and upon his return in 1946, he began his career farming in Desoto County. In 1949, he married Mary Jane Russell. Mr. Abele was very active in both civic and agricultural affairs, and was a lifelong Presbyterian. He served on the Desoto County Co-Op Board of Directors, the Golden Guernsey Milk Committee, the Desoto County ASCS, the FHA Board, and the Trustmark National Bank Board. He also served as a Desoto County Election Commissioner for twenty years. He is survived by many nieces and nephews, along with others special and dear to him, especially Sarah Hassell Clenney, W. E. "Sluggo" Davis, and his caregiver Rosie Gilliand. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 50 years Mary Jane Russell, and his two brothers Hal Abele and Roland Abele. The visitation will be held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at Hernando Funeral Home, with a memorial service to follow at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to The Palmer Home for Children, 800 Baldwin Rd.
