She lived in the Northern Territory of Australia with the Arrernte and Warlpiri peoples, before settling in Alice Springs. Her studies compelled her to crusade for better treatment of the Aboriginal people. She also was known for her love of plants and is famous for many of her drawings depicting desert flora. In 1955 she fought for and received a large tract of land for a botanical reserve. She was instrumental in the development of the park. Today the Olive Pink Flora Reserve draws visitors from around the world to Central Australia, in order to view and study the over 300 plant species represented there.
