A private family burial for Joyce Lee Fraze, 83, will be held in the Portales Cemetery on Wed. morning, May 17, 2017, followed by a public service at 10:00 AM, at the Dora Church of Christ with Wayne Rush officiating. Her grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. Billy Prater, Billy Hays, Stanley Bilberry, Dick Hood, Jimmie Glenn, and Max Fraze, along with all her other many friends will be honorary pallbearers. The family will receive guests at the funeral home on Tues. evening from 6 to 7:30 PM. Joyce Lee Fraze, a Roosevelt County resident for most of her life, passed away on Mother's Day, May 14, 2017 in Lubbock, TX. She was born on Jan. 18, 1934 to the home of B. B. (Buster) and Carl Grace Swafford. She was the youngest of six children.
Joyce attended the Dora Schools for all eleven years, and was very active in volleyball and softball. She was the Valedictorian of the class of 1951. Joyce was a lifetime member of the Dora Church of Christ.
On June 22, 1951, in Portales, she was married to Donald Dee Fraze. In 1973, Joyce began working in the Roosevelt County Clerk's Office, where she worked for almost 32 years. She was the County Clerk or Chief Deputy Clerk for most of these years.
During her retirement years, she enjoyed traveling, quilting, and taking care of her great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Steve and Jo Beth Fraze of Lubbock, TX, Gordon and Becky Fraze of Dora, and Delynda and Garry Smith of Amarillo, TX; nine grandchildren, Tassie (Jon) Hermann, Lacee (Clay) Hoelting, Davin (Melissa) Fraze, Jared (Kristi) Fraze, Trevor (Tammy) Fraze, Copen (Alicia) Smith, Ty (Lacy) Smith, Ryder Smith and Flint Smith; and 20 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Buster and Carl Swafford; all of her siblings, Maxine, Duane, Naida, June Ellen, and Charlene; a grandson, Clayton Smith; and by her beloved husband, Donald Fraze, who died Aug. 9, 1994.
