Margaret Ann Mason of Bellingham, died of complications of the heart and lung diseases at home on Saturday October 14, 2000. She was 75. Born August 30, 1925 to Harold and Katie Riggins in Pittsburgh, Kansas, she was raised in Independence, Missouri. She attended Graceland College in Iowa.

She spent the first 22 years of marriage to her husband, LCDR George E. Mason, following him through extensive transfers in the United States and Japan.

In addition to being a wife and mother, she volunteered with Campfire Girls, Cub Scouts, other non-profit organizations, Hospital Gray Ladies and published Navy family newspapers overseas.

She and her family moved to Bellingham in 1963, where her husband eventually retired. She again followed him around the area while he pursued another career.

Meanwhile, she sold real estate for many years and then opened an antique store in Bellingham "Ann's China Closet," which she actively maintained until recently. She loved to watch the beautification of Bellingham as trees and bushes were planted.

Margaret Ann love to travel both within the United States and Europe. She was an avid reader, until she lost her eyesight. However, she continued listening to books on tape. A competent artist, she taught her children to love art and to paint. She loved bridge, continuing to play with groups who enjoyed Conversation Bridge, often with her poor vision undetected in the heat of conversation.

She leaves behind her husband, George of Bellingham; son David of Delaware; daughters Rebecca of Pennsylvania and Beth Ann of Seattle. Her daughter Cindi preceded her in death in 1992.
