He served as a pround Marine in the 1st Battalion 9th Marines "The Walking Dead" in Vietnam where he received the Purple Heart for wounds in battle.

These men are from “The Walking Dead”, the 3rd Marine Division, 1st Battalion, 9th Marines, Bravo Company, who fought, and all but one, died on 12 May 1966 in South Vietnam, Quang Nam province.
