Esther Elise Abbe, 92, of Owatonna, died Sunday, May 12, 2013 at Homestead Hospice House.
Esther was born January 6, 1921 in Wadena, Minnesota the daughter of Gotleib and Anna (Scholljegerdes) Zacharias. She attended Deer Creek public schools. As a teenager she moved from Wadena, and worked for several farm families in the Meriden area. She also worked at Roy''s Café in Owatonna. Esther married Lavern Abbe on August 20, 1941, at St. Paul''s Lutheran Church, Meriden. They farmed together in Meriden Township and raised 4 children. She later worked at Varsi-Jac in Owatonna.
Esther enjoyed spending time with family & friends, gardening, reading, quilting, crafting, teaching Sunday school, and numerous other activities at the church. She and Lavern enjoyed playing cards and traveling throughout the US, Canada and Germany.
Esther is survived by 4 children, Gene (Judy) Abbe of Owatonna, Dwaine (Mary Jo) Abbe of Cincinnati, OH, Boyd (Sheila) Abbe of Burnsville, and Donna (Jack) Shoults of Cuba, MO; 8 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lavern; grandson, Ben Abbe; 5 brothers; and 3 sisters.
Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and one hour prior to the service in the church. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at 11:00 AM at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with The Reverend Gary Rusinko officiating. Interment will be in the St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in rural Meriden. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Paul''s Lutheran Church and/or Owatonna Home Care and Hospice.
