Nick Messer Taken June 19

M. H. (Nick) Messer of 829 West Madison Street, Centerville, died at 7 a.m. Wednesday, June 19, at the St. Joseph Hospital, at the age of 70 years, two months, and 19 days.
Born at Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, March 30, 1887, he was the son of Jobe and Susan Harmon Messer. He had been a resident of Centerville for over 45 years. He was a retired coal miner, a member of the U.M.W.A., and a veteran of World War I.
Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Ernie Craver of Exline and Mrs. Mary Edwards of Englewood, Colo.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home, with Dr. Hugh Sawyers officiating. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery.

Milford Messer, son of Jobe and Susan Harmon Messer, was born March 30, 1887 at Mt. Pleasant, Iowa and departed this life at the St. Joseph's Hospital, Centerville, Iowa, on June 19, 1957 at the age of 70 years, two months, and 19 days.
Nick, as he was known to his many friends, will be greatly missed for his pleasing personality and lasting smile which made him a host of friends. He had been a resident of Centerville for over 45 years.
He was a retired coal miner, a member of the UMWA and a veteran of World War I.
Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. E.V. Craver of Exline and Mrs. Mary Edwards of Englewood, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his father and mother and three brothers.
Funeral services were Saturday afternoon, June 22 at the Johnson Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. Hugh Sawyers with interment in the Oakland Cemetery.

Nick was a veteran of World War I. He was inducted August 28, 1918 at Centerville, Iowa serving with Company "L" 70th Infantry and was Honorably discharged at Camp Funston, Kansas January 29, 1919.
