Zachariah Taylor Brantley was born in Georgia. He was married to Hasseltine Arcadia Hays who was called "Kate". They had twelve children the oldest of whom was Dollie Iola Brantley.

The family moved to Neshoba County and Philadelphia, where Zachariah Taylor entered politics and was elected Tax Assessor and later sheriff for several terms. He died January 4, 1916 in Philadelphia and is buried in Cedarlawn Cemetery.
