Born 1941 in Providence, RI., died in San Francisco, CA. January 14, 2003. An eighth generation Kentuckian from a prominent political family and son of Rogers C. B. Morton, David was educated at Woodberry Forest School and Yale University (B.A. 1963, Master of Architecture 1968). He practiced architecture in New York City for 25 years before relocating to Marin County, CA. in the early 1990's. In 1971 David pioneered legal residential loft conversion when he purchased a derelict toilet seat factory at Brooklyn's Fulton Ferry Landing. Artistically adventurous but publicity shy he designed homes across the U.S., studiously avoiding a signature style, believing careerism to be at cross purposes to his art. David was a passionate land steward in Maine, California and Hawaii. A self-effacing American Gentleman, whatever he touched was improved. He is survived by his partner of 27 years, Thomas Cordell, his mother Anne Morton Kimberly, his sister Anne Wyman, his niece Elizabeth McCance and many friends
