Mr. Samuel Worth Huckaby, 80, of Brooks, Ga., died Thursday morning, May 30, 1996, at Spalding Regional Hospital. He was born in Fayette County, Ga., the son of the late Noah Damascus Huckaby and the late Alice Jones Huckaby. The Rev. Huckaby was pastor of several Georgia churches among them Calvary, Faith, and New Salem, all of Griffin, Valley Grove of Thomaston, and Shadnor Baptist Church, Union City, Ga. He was ordained into the ministry in 1942. The Rev. Huckaby was well known in several states for his evangelical ministry as well as being active in all levels of Association work.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Christine Hayes Huckaby of Brooks; daughter, Joanne Floyd of Riverdale; sons and daughters-in-law, Eugene and Jan Huckaby of Temuco, Chile, Lyndon Huckaby of Lindale, Ga., and Keith and Chokdee Huckaby of Brooks; grandchildren, Mr. and Mrs. Tom (Chris) Aker of Suwanee, Ken Walraven and Brian Walraven of Cave Springs, Ga., Mr. and Mrs Todd Huckaby of Santiago, Chile, Mr. and Mrs Doug (Kim) Head of Thomaston, Allison Huckaby of Temuco, Chile, Jonathan Huckaby of Birmingham, Ala., and Noah Huckaby and Bryna Huckaby, both of Lindale, Ga.; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Sarah Pollard of Brooks, and Mrs Alberta Hand of Griffin; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Saturday, June 1, at 11 a. m. in the Starr's Mill Baptist Church in Fayette County. The Rev. Eugene Huckaby, the Rev. W. H. Thompson, and the Rev. James Burleson will officiate. Interment will be in Whitewater Baptist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Huckaby will be carried to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service.
