Elizabeth Brown and John W. Brown are listed on the side of the Taylor Gravestone. William Taylor was married to Emma "Brown" Taylor. Emma's name was never inscribed but Elizabeth Brown was her mother. John W. Brown was Elizabeth's son & Emma's brother.

Ottawa Daily Republic, Ottawa Kansas April 3.1896:

Mrs. Elizabeth Brown who was taken to the asylum on Osawatomie, January 15th, died at that place Friday morning, March 27th. The remains were sent to an Ottawa undertaker and from there sent to her former home in Pennsylvania. She leaves her husband, a son & two daughters.

My Aunt Lorraine remembered reading letters that were sent home to her grandmother, Anna "Brown" Oswald, Elizabeth's daughter. She indicated that Elizabeth had a hard time living in Kansas with the wide open spaces and prairie winds. The loneliness of Kansas life after living in Pennsylvania was very hard on her.

Although her gravestone lists 1833 as her year of birth, census records seem to list she was born about 1829. This would be correct as her father would be Michael Teel who died in 1831. In the 1850 census, Elizabeth is living with her mother, Margaret, brother, Charles & his wife, Elizabeth & her brother, George. In the 1870 census, she is again living with her mother, Margaret and son, Alexander before she moved to Kansas to be with John.
