Baron Arthur Haulot, who was born in Angleur, Belgium on 15 November 1913, started to work in
Tourism about 60 years ago. Attaché to the Ministry of Communications in 1937, he was
appointed as Inspector of the 'Office National des Vacances Ouvrières' in 1938.
In 1945, after more than three years of captivity in Nazi concentration camps "Mauthausen" and "Dachau" , Arthur Haulot was in charge of the General Office for Tourism of Belgium.
As such, he was actively involved with the biggest International tourist organizations, including
the World Tourism Organisation (WTO), the International Office of Social Tourism (BITS) and the
European Travel Commission (ETC).
He was the second President of ETC and in 1958 drafted its official statutes in accordance with
Belgian law.
An excellent writer, he is the author of numerous works and articles dedicated to the diverse
aspects of modern tourism.
Arthur Haulot taught in numerous American universities as well as in Aix-en-Provence, France.
His main preoccupation was to put tourism at the service of man, rather than at the service of the
industries which operate in the field of tourism.
He died in Brussels
