he entered the army Jan 6 1944 and after training he was assigned to nith division which participated in the campaigns at Remagen and Ruhr pocket and in the Harz Mountain.
In addition to the silver star he held the European Theater of war metal with three stars and a Spearhead Good Conduct metal and the Victory Metal.
On sept 18 1950 he was the first patient to be admitted to the then just completed V A hospital
