Chester Arthur Brunner (Brenner), well known retired baker, died at his home, 45 Fairground Avenue at 5:20 p.m. yesterday, after an illness of three weeks, aged 83.
He was born and reared near Smithsburg, the son of John and Nancy (Swope) Brunner. He had lived in Hagerstown most of his life. For over 40 years he was employed as a baker for Jacob Roessner. Later he served as a desk clerk at the TMCA for a number of years, and conducted a bakery business of his own on West Washington Street. He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, and a Sunday school teacher for many years.
Surviving are wife, Mrs. Emma (Noel) Brunner; daughters, Mrs. R. Ralph McClelland, Sr, Mrs. Robert C. Thornburg, Hagerstown; Mrs. Joseph C. Ricketts, Bronxville, N. Y.; three grandsons; three great-grandchildren; sister, Mrs. Edward Smith, Waldorf, Md.; and brothers, Tyson Brunner, Hagerstown; and John Brunner, Pittsburg.
The body was removed to the funeral home of A. K. Coffman, where the service will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m., the Rev Edward P. Heinze officiating, with interment in Rest Haven Cemetery.
