DR. ALFORD, SPARTANBURG, DIES AT 69

SPARTANBURG—Dr. Duncan Curry Alford, 69, died Wednesday [November 12] in a local hospital.

He was born in Dillon County, a son of the late Manton and Rena Curry Alford.

Funeral services will be Friday at 10 a.m. in First Presbyterian Church, with burial in the Alford Family Cemetery in Dillon.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Mary Ann Fruitt and Miss June Alford of Spartanburg; a son, Dr. Earl C. Alford of Spartanburg; three brothers, J.L. Alford of Dillon, Manton Alford of Laurinburg, N.C., and E.R. Alford of Dillon; and three sisters, Miss Juliette Alford and Miss Tochie Alford of Dillon and Mrs. Margaret Brandis of Salisbury, N.C.

He was a general practitioner for the past 39 years and was formerly principal and football coach at Kershaw High School for several years. He was also a former principal at Dillon High School for two years.

He was vice president of the S.C. Medical Association in 1944, and was Chief of Staff of the Spartanburg General Hospital in 1946.
