Mrs. Elizabeth Schmitz, 82, of Hilbert, died Monday afternoon after a lingering illness. Born March 25. 1886, at St. Anna, she was a daughter of the late John and Barbara Mayer Rach.

She married Peter Schmitz on Nov. 28, 1905. at St. Anna. Mr. Schmitz died June 4, 1953. The couple had lived at St. Anna until 1906 when they moved moved to a farm at R. 1, Hilbert. In 1947 they moved to the Village of Hilbert. Mrs. Schmitz was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Hilbert, the church Christian Mother's Society, the American Legion Auxiliary unit, and a charter member of the Germania Society of Chilton.

Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Anita Breit, of Kaukauna, and Mrs. LeRoy (Erla) Kleist, of Potter: two sons, Raymond J., of Hilbert, and Elmer H., of R2 Hilbert: a sister, Mrs. Dora Zorn, Sheboygan; a brother, Leo Rach, Kiel; 13 grand children; and 16 great grand children. A son and a daughter also preceded Mrs. Schmitz in death.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Hilbert, with the Rev. John P. Schmitt, pastor, celebrant of a requiem Mass Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the Kapitzke Funeral Home, Hilbert, after 3 p.m. Wednesday. A rosary will be prayed at the funeral home at 8 p.m. Wednesday following a 7 o'clock prayer service by the American Legion Auxiliary.
