Samuel R. Thompson 81, of Plainfield, passed away on Monday, March 8, 2004. He retired from Metro Transit in 1984 after several years as a driver in the Indianapolis area. Sam also retired from the United States Marine Corps after serving in WW II, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He was also awarded the Purple Heart. There will be a memorial service on Wednesday, March 10th, at 11:00 a.m. in the Plainfield United Methodist Church where friends may call one hour prior to the service. The Reverend Ron Mercer and Dr. Ann Glass will be officiating. Friends are invited to stay after the service for a luncheon with the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the church. Survivors include his wife, Mary Ellen (Kennedy) Thompson; daughters, Jill Thompson Barnard, Nancy Sullenger, Susan Sullenger White; sons, Vernon and Bill Sullenger, two grandchildren. Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, Plainfield is in charge of arrangements.
