Father of 18 children including actresses Esther Rolle, Estelle Evans, and Rosanna Carter. A Caribbean farming immigrant of Bahamian descent, Mr. Rolle became a South Florida vegetable farmer. Among the first buried in this cemetery after it first opened following passage of a law prohibiting blacks from being buried in the Pompano Beach Cemetery.
