Civil War Union Army Officer. Lieut. Bolza was killed (gunshot wound to the head) at The Battle of Falling Waters during the mounted charge of the 6th Michigan Cavalry. Orphaned as a child, he came to Michigan in 1856 and owned a jewelry store in Grand Rapids at the start of the war. He joined his regiment on October 13, 1862, as a Second Lieut. (The U.S., Registers of Deaths of Volunteers, 1861-1865 records his surname as "Balzie.")
