Obituary for Mrs. Bonnie Spruill Barrow

Bonnie Jeanne Spruill Barrow of Carrollton passed away at Tanner Medical Center on June 10th, 2012. She was born on November 1, 1926.


She was preceded in death by her parents, John Marvin and Ruth Huddleston Spruill; her sister, Azalee (Polly) Halverson; her brother, Darrow Spruill; and her daughter, Martha Rebecca Barrow Ambler.


She is survived by her great love, husband and high school sweetheart, Hugh W. (Bill) Barrow of Carrollton; her children, Hugh W. Barrow Jr., MD (Susan) of Spartanburg, SC, Judge Lew S. Barrow (Juanita) of Fortson, GA, and Ann Barrow Doyle (Dr. John Doyle) of Atlanta; her grandchildren, Hugh W. Barrow III, Esq. (Elyse) of Louisville, KY, Lori Barrow Fulmer (Ron) of Belmont, CA, James L. Barrow, Esq. of Columbus, GA, William C. Barrow, MD of Nashville, TN, and Juliette Ambler of Ft. Worth, TX; and two great-grandsons, Hudson and Cooper Barrow of Louisville, KY.


She graduated from Bowdon High School, West Georgia Jr. College and attended Emory University as a member of the US Cadet Nurse Corps until her marriage after the close of World War II. She continued her nursing career at J.W. Watt's Hospital in Bowdon and taught at Smithfield Junior High School and Bowdon Elementary School. After raising her four children, she enjoyed a successful career in real estate sales in Delaware, Pennsylvania and Dalton, Georgia.


She was a member of Carrollton First United Methodist Church and the Adult Friendship Sunday School class. She was also an associate member of Victory United Methodist Church and a volunteer at Dalton and Tanner hospitals. She was extremely engaged in numerous civic, church and social activities where the family resided. A woman of great faith, she led an active life of service to her family, her church and community. She was a charter and continuing member of the Blue Stocking Club. She greatly contributed to the growth and character of her children, and was a faithful wife to her husband, Bill. She was a lover of nature, enjoying gardening, bird-watching and horticulture. She also was a talented artist, painter and photographer.


The family will receive friends at Rainwater Funeral Home, (317 North Carroll Street, Bowdon, Georgia) on Wednesday, June 13th from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. A private family graveside service will be held following the visitation.
