Chester was the son of Herman Eugene Savage and Alice Lillian Cummings.

On April 24, 1944 in Lancaster he married Doris Ruby LaCroix, daughter of Joseph LaCroix and Carrie Deyette.

They had at least three daughters and two sons, one of which was Chester Jr.

Cause of Death: Self-inflicted gunshot wound; fell in cellar
