He was a farmer most of his life on Howell Farm, Saylorsburg, continuing the business his father and uncle started as Howell Brothers and Sons. After retiring in 1972, he continued involvement in the farm, now managed by his grandsons.
Born on Howell Farm, he was a son of the late Edmund and Mary (Kresge) Howell.
A member of the Brodheadsville congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses, he helped establish the first Jehovah's Witnesses congregation in Mount Pocono in 1972. Previously, he guided the construction of the Lehighton congregation's Kingdom Hall and was an elder in the Palmerton congregation.
Survivors: Wife; daughter, Gladys Nordmeyer of Saylorsburg R.3, and six grandchildren.
