Civil War Union Army officer. He was an aide to Union General Charles A. Heckman, and was mortally wounded in the Battle of Drury's Bluff, May 16, 1864. General Heckman was taken prisoner in this same action by soldiers of the 7th Virginia Regiment. Lt. Wheeler died several weeks later at Fortress Monroe. He was the son of Asa and Mehitable Perley Wheeler.
