Archie Dedman, Retired Joyland Employee, Dies

Archie V. (Pop) Dedman, 75, retired assistant manager of Joyland Park, died yesterday morning at his home, 338 Bluegrass Avenue, after an illness of one month.

A native of Spears, he was a son of the late Phillip P. and Annie Moore Dedman. He was associated with Joyland Park for over 35 years prior to his retirement in 1952, and was the supervisor of the swimming pool. He was for many years coordinator of the annual free swimming instruction series conducted by The Lexington-Herald Leader. He operated the Enterprise Garage on South Upper Street for many years and was the founder of the Midland Delivery Service and the Midland Garage on East Third Street. He was a member of the Union City Baptist Church, Union City.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Nellie Warren Dedman; four daughters, Mrs. Louisa Perkins, Ft. Meyers, Fla., and Mrs. Nell Yarnell, Miss Nancy Carroll Dedman, and Mrs. Elizabeth Houghton, all of Lexington; two sons, Archie H. Dedman and Leroy Dedman, both of Lexington; two sisters, Mrs. Mayme Evans, Lexington, and Mrs. Jennie Davis, Nicholasville; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The body was taken to the Kerr Brothers Funeral Home where friends may call after 8 p.m. today.
