GREENFIELD – William Earl "Billy" Hommel, age 77, of Greenfield, passed away Sunday, May 19, 2013 at Hancock Regional Hospice. Born on September 5, 1935 in Indianapolis, he was the son of Carl Claude and Gertrude (Bingham) Hommel. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1953-1955. Billy married Kare Lefevers-Hommel on June 1, 1992 in Covington, KY.

He worked as a union steward and set-up man for Lucent Technology/Western Electric in Indianapolis for 28 years before retiring in 1986. Billy was a member of the V.F.W. #2693, American Legion Post #119, and the Moose Lodge, all in Greenfield. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and motorcycle riding in his spare time.

Surviving him are his son David Alan (Linda) Hommel of Milton, KY; daughters, Christina Lynn (Mark) Sweet and Judy (Billy) Griffith, both of Greenfield; brothers, Richard Hommel of Greenwood, Phillip Hommel of Florida, and Larry Hommel of California; sisters, Bernice Facemeyer and Vickey Jones, both of Franklin; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Karen; parents, Carl and Gertrude; and sister, Judy Linville.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, May 22, from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary& Crematory in Greenfield. Funeral services will be on Thursday, May 23, at 11:00 a.m., also at the mortuary. The family asks that attendees feel free to wear casual dress to both events. Burial will follow at Philadelphia Church Cemetery in Philadelphia near Greenfield.
