"A telegram was received yesterday afternoon announcing the death in New York of Mrs. M. A. Garner, wife of Capt. P. M. Garner, and a former resident of New Albany. Mrs. Garner was seventy-six years old and is survived by her son, Capt. C. E. Garner, of Jacksonville, Fla., and a daughter, Mrs. Thomas J. Taylor, of New York, at whose home she died. She was a sister of the late Mrs. Simeon K. Wolfe and the late Mrs. James Snodgrass, both of New Albany. She leaves a brother, S. J. Bence, of Corydon, formerly Sheriff of Harrison county, an a sister, Mrs. Henry Brock,of Georgetown township. Her late husband, Capt. Garner, was for many years a steamboat captain on the Ohio and Mississippi rivers and was afterward engaged in the grocery business at Pearl and Market streets, New Albany. Mrs. Garner's body will arrive in New Albany this afternoon and will be taken to Fairview cemetery, where brief funeral services will be conducted at the grave by the Rev. W. M. Elliott, pastor of the Third Presbyterian church."
