Rosa was the oldest child of Frank L. Beshey and Jane Claude. She was born in LaSalle county, Illinois. The family moved to Iowa around 1879. Rosa lived on her family farm near Woolstock, Iowa.

Tolman and Rosetta Bell Beshey were married on February 27, 1892 in Webster City, Iowa. The couples started housekeeping on a farm in O'Brien County, Iowa. After ten years there, they farmed in Hamilton County in Cass township for many years.

They had six children:
Arthur Soop 1893-1965
Elsie Mable Soop 1897-1974 wife of John Smalley
Frank Alexander Soop 1900-1974
Earl Soop 1907-1978
Leroy Soop 1912-1975
Frederick who died in infancy.
