Martha Ekdale Conrad, 86, of St. Mary's Nursing Home in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, formerly of Burlington, died at 4:50 a.m. Sunday, May 11, 2003 at the Nursing Home.

Born December 4, 1916, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Neal O. and Edith Harper Ekdale. On October 15, 1939 she married Robert Theodore Conrad in Burlington. He died June 10, 1966.

Mrs. Conrad was a county clerk. She was a graduate of Burlington High School, attended junior college one year and Iowa State University for three years. She was a member of Shakespeare Club, Hetta Gilbert Society, the Des Moines County Historical Society, Friends of Symphony, Friends of Library, Christ Episcopal Church and the Art Guild of Burlington.

Survivors include two nieces, Martha Baumle (Burke) Stancill of Big Sky, Montana, and Christina Baumle (Warren) Marinaccio of Kohler, Wisconsin; one great niece, Lisa Marinaccio (John) Gustafson; three great-nephews, Brent (Kimberly) Marinaccio, Charles (Kathryn) Swatz and Eric (Lisa) Swatz, and many other relatives and friends.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Mary Ekdale Baumle.

No formal visitation is planned.

The funeral for Mrs. Conrad will be at 9 a.m. Friday at Christ Episcopal Church. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for the Art Guild of Burlington and the Des Moines County Historical Society.
