Mary Bell (Purdy) Lyons, 96, formerly of Grandview, Mo., died May 22, 2013, in Lee's Summit, Mo.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, at Langsford Funeral Home, 115 SW Third St., Lee's Summit. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday, May 31, at Big Creek Cemetery in Bosworth, Mo.

Mary was born Oct. 13, 1916, to Rolla and Myrtle Lyons near Bosworth. She had two older sisters, Velma and Mildred, and a younger brother, Eddie. She married Avery "Abe" Lyons in 1931. Their daughter, Peggy Joyce Lyons, was born on May 9, 1932. She owned a restaurant in Bosworth for several years before moving to San Diego during World War II to build B-24 bombers.

After the war, she returned to Grandview where she lived for more than 60 years. She retired from the Vendo company in Kansas City after nearly 25 years. She enjoyed boating at the Lake of the Ozarks with Abe and gambling in Las Vegas with Peggy.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Abe; daughter, Peggy, and son-in-law, Wesley L. "Bud" Moxley Jr.; parents, Rolla and Myrtle; and siblings, Velma, Mildred and Eddie.

She is survived by a granddaughter, Joyce Thomas, and husband Carlton; grandson, Wesley L. "Chip" Moxley III and wife Debra; six great grandchildren, Lynn Ashworth, Liza Wall, Lauren Moxley Johnson, Jaye Thomas, Elle Moxley and Jordan Thomas; and one great-great granddaughter, Moira Yturralde.
