Obituary, Newton-Bartlett Funeral Home (Newport, NH), 28 May 2013:
Croydon, NH: Deane M. Barton, 70, of Barton Road, passed away at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, Friday, May 24, 2013, following a period of declining health.
Deane was born on March 19, 1943, in Newport, NH, son of Clara Etta (Murray) and the late Herman Ira Barton. He was raised and educated in Grantham and graduated from Lebanon High School in the Class of 1961. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1962 and served in Paris. His working career involved several different jobs which included time as a polisher at Sturm-Ruger, owing and operating a meat market in Sunapee Harbor, being an explosives expert during the construction of Interstate 89 and finally as a diesel mechanic for the Town of Sunapee where he retired from. Deane was an avid sportsman to say the least. He continued butchering game animals this past fall, and his decision to enlist after high school instead of continuing to college was fueled by wanting to be outdoors. If you couldn't find Deane then one could usually walk toward the nearest brook and listen for his singing.
Survivors include his mother, Etta Barton of Croydon, his 2 daughters: Kerry Barton-Richardson and her companion, Todd Stone, of Claremont, Tammy Barton of Newport, his step-daughters: Nona Silver and her wife, Pat, of Avon, MA, Kendra Gould and her husband, Wayne, of Hooksett, his step-son: Mark Silver and his wife, Ann, of Kingwood, TX, his sister: Anita MacDonald of Litchfield and several grand and great-grandchildren.
Friends may call on the family Thursday evening May 30, 2013, from 6-8PM at the Newton-Bartlett Funeral Home, 42 Main Street, Newport, NH. Burial will be private at the Glenwood Cemetery [Saint Rose of Lima New Catholic Cemetery] in Littleton, NH. There will be no other services.
Donations may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 85 Astor Ave. Ste 2, Norwood, MA 02062-5040 or www.kidney.org/support .
