Came To Minnesota From Ohio In 1858;
Funeral Will Be Held Monday
Mrs. Margaret E. Volk, pioneer resident of this community, passed away after a lingering illness at the home of a son, Roy Volk, in Jamestown township at 3:40 o'clock yesterday afternoon.
Mrs. Volk was born in Ohio February 4, 1849, thus being 83 years old at the time of her death. She came to Minnesota with her parents in 1858 and settled at St. Peter. She married the late William Volk in 1869.
After their marriage, the couple made their home near Lake Emily for several years, later moving to a farm in Jamestown near Lake Washington where the family lived until 1904, when they moved to North Mankato. Mrs. Volk lived there until the death of her husband two years ago, and since that time has made her home with her sons, Albert of Mankato, and Roy.
Surviving Mrs. Volk are two sons, Albert Volk of Mankato and Roy Volk of Jamestown, 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. One sister, Mrs. William Layton of St. Peter, also survives.
Mrs. Volk was one of the pioneers of this section of the state and went through the Indian uprising, witnessing the country grow from a wilderness to its present cultured state.
Funeral services will be held at the Kelly-Johnson-Boman Mortuary Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock and interment will be made in Glenwood Memorial Park. Rev. W.W. Kirby, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, will officiate. The body will lie in state at the mortuary until the time of the funeral.
