Husband of Hazel (Bassett) Dickson, Clem was born in Williamstown, Glengarry Co, Ontario. He worked on the Grand Trunk Pacific Railroad as a young man bringing rail service from Winnipeg to the Pacific Coast. He served with the Canadian Expeditionary Forces in France during WW I. After the war, he traveled to Springfield, Massachusetts where he worked mostly as a self-employed heating contractor.

Clement was one of 11 children born to Daniel Alexander Dickson and Margaret (Meagher) Dickson. Two of those children were twins who died at birth and were unnamed.

A sister, Agatha Dickson, died in 1916 in Montreal, Canada. She is buried in Claremont, NH, where she had worked as a nurse. Agatha Dickson
