Clayton Gilroy Services at Ord
Funeral services were held Friday for Clayton E. Gilroy who died April 19, 1977 at the Valley County Hospital. He was 94.
The Rev. David marsh officiated at the 2 pm rites at the First Presbyterian Church in Ord. Mrs. Zola Schudel was the organist for Mrs. Sharon Fuss as she sang 'Going Down The Valley' and 'How Great Thou Art'. Pallbearers were Willard Harkness, Eugene Petska, Bernard Petska, Loren Gabriel, Delmer Conner, and Gerald Einspahr. Honorary pallbearers were Warner Vergin, Sam Marks, Rollin Dye, Dillo Troyer, Carl Oliver and Ed Hackel. Burial was in the Ord Cemetery. Ord Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be given in his memory to the First Presbyterian Church of Ord.
Mr. Gilroy was born April 25, 1882 in Omaha to Samuel and Katherine Preston Gilroy. He came with his parents to a homestead near North Loup in 1883, later moving to a farm near Scotia, then a short time later to a farm near Burwell. Clayton attended schools at Burwell. The family moved to a farm near Ord when Clayton was 20 years old. He was a rural mail carrier for many years and also a Veteran of World War I. Clayton was united in marriage to Lucinda Thorne on March 7, 1934 at Taylor. They made their home in Ord.
Clayton was a member of the First Presbyterian Church at Ord.
Survivors include his wife, Lucinda of Ord; two sons, Lyle of Burlington, CO and Keith of Red Oak, IA, one daughter, Mrs. Katherine Stuckey of Lexington, seven grandchildren and one sister, Minnie Gilroy of Ord.
Preceding him in death were his parents, one brother, one sister, and two grandchildren.
