Frank Alvarez, former resident of Winkelman, passed away on May 9 at the age of 71, in Tucson, where he had resided for many years. He was born October 14, 1941, to Gregorio and Mercedes Alvarez in Winkelman. He graduated from Hayden High School in 1958 and joined the U.S. Army soon thereafter. He served three years, completing his basic training in Ft. Polk, LA, and then stationed in South Korea. He later earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Arizona.

Frank was an avid writer. He loved writing novels and short stories, and dreamed of, someday, being a screenwriter. He also loved movies and owned a large collection of movie classics. Frank also loved to fly, many times catching a flight to a city he had never visited, just for the sake of traveling. He had a great sense of adventure, a quick mind, and a smile for everyone.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Gregorio and Mercedes; brothers, Gegorio Alvarez who died in World War II, Augustine Alvarez, Joe Alvarez and Tony Alvarez. His sisters were Irene Garcia, Nellie Alvarez and Leonor Alvarez.

He is survived by nephews and nieces, Virginia Doumis of Mesa, Art (Nanette) Yescas of Kearny, Lupe (Nick) De La Torre of Tucson, Ralph (Dixie) Garcia of Espanola, NM, and Patsy (Antonio) Arvizu of Miami; and many great nephews and nieces.

Services will be held on May 25 in Tucson at St. Mark's Episcopal Church. He will be buried with his mother in Mountain View Cemetery in Hayden.
