Lula is buried beside her husband and her parents, William and Betha Ritter Smith. Her mother's family was in the Taxi Cab business. She drove a cab with the rest of the family for a while. She was a collector of salt and pepper shakers. Parented six children. Married to Calvin on Oct. 17, 1935. The biggest and hardest job was raising the children.
Her husband taken from her very early in life by the ugly cancer monster, watching him suffer was so very hard on her.
She collected salt and pepper shakers. Anytime someone in the family would travel they would pick her up one from where they went. She had a very large collection. After all 6 children and wives can go a lot of places over the years.
Lula also loved shoes. She wore a lot of what was in style at the time. Almost needed a closet for her heels. It was one of her simple joys in life.

Mrs. Lula L. Young, 65 of 210 S. Pleasant St. Independence, Mo. died Tuesday at the Independence Sanitarium and Hospital. She was a lifelong area resident. Mrs. Young was a housewife. She was past president of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Independence and the Military Order of Ladybugs. She leaves 3 sons William Young, Huntsville Ark. Tom Young, Independence, Mo., Gary Young, Springfield, Mo. Three daughters , Mrs. Janice Combs, Independence, Mo. Mrs. Joyce Belman, Kansas City, Mo. and Mrs. Marilyn Hupman, Independence, Mo. Three sisters Mrs. Dorothy Vaughn, Mrs. Lucille Wacaser, and Mrs. Wilman Sandion of Independence; 14 grandchildren, and a great grandchild. Services will be at 1 pm Friday at the Carson Independence Chapel; burial in Floral Hills Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 today at the chapel.
