She was born in Patrick County on July 6, 1926 to the late Hillary and Mattie Lou Willard Bowman.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Latney Gid Allen; two daughters, Betty Jo Pruitt and an infant; two sisters, Hazel Bowman and Nannie Dawson; two brothers, Howard Bowman and William Bowman; and a grandson, Randall Allen.
She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are four daughters, Brenda Smith, Patricia Childress, Elaine Hardy and Vicky Sue Allen, all of Mount Airy; four sons, Ronnie Allen, Gary Allen, Roger Dale Allen and Randy Allen, all of Mount Airy; one sister, Francis Bowman of Claudville; one brother, Lloyd Bowman of Claudville; 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Monday at Howell Funeral Chapel of Mount Airy by the Revs. Dwight Sechrist and Billy Joe Jenkins. Burial was in Red Bank Primitive Baptist Church cemetery in Claudville.
