Reverend H. Eldon "Cliff" Akerman, age 75, passed away on Monday, the 28th of January 2013, from cardiac arrest. He was born on the 11th of November 1937, in Van Wert, Ohio.
He graduated from Van Wert High School in 1955, then in 1960 graduated from Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio, where he earned an AB in Social Studies. Then, in 1963, he graduated from the Hamma School of Theology in Springfield, Ohio, earning a Master of Divinity.
He was ordained into the Lutheran Church in America in 1963 (now ELCA), and served congregations in Ohio and Texas until he officially retired in 2003 from Holy Comforter Lutheran Church in Kingwood. Having served on Synod Council and Secretary of Texas Louisiana Gulf Coast Synod, he also served six interim assignments in Texas following his retirement, and was a friend to all. "Cliff" has traveled extensively and loved to fish.

Rev. Akerman is predeceased by his father, David Wilson Akerman, and is survived by his wife of 40 years, Evelyn (Sibert) Akerman; and daughters, Beth Akerman of Upper Arlington, Ohio, and Heather Lauderman (Hueston) of Columbus, Ohio; stepdaughter, Karen Darmer and her husband Ken of Katy, and stepson Robert McShane of Houston; as well as six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. His mother Catherine Marguerite (Fleming) Akerman; brothers Phil, David and Mike Akerman, and sister, Sue May also survive him.

A memorial service, in celebration of his life, is to be conducted at four o'clock in the afternoon on Monday, the 4th of February, at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 2353 Rice Boulevard in Houston, where Bishop Mike Rinehart, Bishop of the Gulf Coast Synod and Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, and the Rev. Dr. Robert G. Moore, Senior Pastor, are to officiate. Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the adjacent Parish Hall.

At a later date, the family is to gather for a private inurnment at Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions be directed to Lutherhill Ministries, P.O. Box 99, La Grange, TX, 78945; the Wittenberg Fund at Wittenberg University, P.O. Box 720, Springfield, OH, 45501; or to the charity or church of one's choice.
