Son of Alexander Black (1805-1880). He served in Company F of the Texas Volunteer Cavalry during the Civil War. He and his family moved to Arizona from New Mexico sometime in the late 1890s. In 1900 he is listed as an inmate at the Arizona State Insane Asylum where, it is assumed, he remained until his death in 1912. A military issue tombstone was ordered for his grave but its current location is unknown as there are no tombstones in this cemetery.
