Charles E. Lytton
Funeral services for Charles E. Lytton, former resident of Stillwater, were held at the Strode Funeral Home at 3 o'clock December 21, the Rev. Mills M. Anderson officiating, assisted by the Rev. Lloyd R. Roach. Interment was in Fairlawn cemetery.
The deceased was born near Staunton, Va., March 25, 1860, and died Thursday, December 14, at his home in San Diego, Cal. He was 73 years of age. He moved with his parents to Iowa in 1875, and three years later to near Odell, Neb. In 1881 he went to Las Vegas, N.M., where he assisted in publication of the Las Vegas Gazette.
He was married to Almira A. Housel, February 5, 1884. They lived in Nebraska, where he engaged in farming until 1891, then coming to Stillwater to enter the implement business with his brother, Dale.
Six children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Lytton, three of whom died in infancy. Surviving children are Clifford J. Lytton, Mrs. Zella Hanner, and Mrs. Lillie Williams, Stillwater; a sister, Metta Lytton, Stillwater, a wife by later marriage, Elica Lytton, of San Diego, Calif., and eight grandchildren.
Mr. Lytton spent several years in the development of gold mines in Colorado, later going to San Diego where he engaged in planning suburban town sites.
In 1876 Charles Lytton became a member of the Methodist Episcopal church in the Moulton, Ia., district. In his later years he was a member of the International Bible Student's society.
A veteran pioneer of Nebraska and Oklahoma, Mr. Lytton gave willingly of his time and service for the betterment of each community in which he lived, manifesting a spirit of unselfish love and loyalty.
