Mary Jane was born in Wilson Co. to parents Wiley W. Whitley and Indiana Avery (Acree) Whitley. She married Levy Drake August 23, 1896 in Edgecombe Co., NC. Mary Jane and Levy had five known children. Levy Drake died with menigitis May 17, 1923. His death certificate states that he was buried on the Cobb Farm in Edgecombe County. His oldest daughter Mamie Anna was married to W. Gray Cobb, son of Jonas Robert Cobb.
On January 26, 1926 Mary Jane Drake married James Franklin Corbett in the Greenville Township of Pitt Co., NC. The two remained married until her death. Every story that I have every heard about her portrayed her as a loving mother, wife, and stepmother. Jim's children called her Mrs. Jane but most of his grandchildren called her "Grandma".
