DEATH AT CUZCO OF HENRY CHANLEY
Henry Chanley, age 30 years and married, an employee of the Southern bridge gang, while working on the Cane Creek bridge about twelve miles north of Jasper, Thursday July 14th, handed his watch and money to the foreman of the crew, threw off his hat and jumped into the water of the creek below, to take a swim. The fact that he jumped into the water with his clothes on leads to the belief that the man was overcome by the heat. He swam a few strokes and then suddenly sank beneath the water. Chanley's body was recovered by the members of the crew and, on the orders of Coroner Meinker, was taken to Huntingburg, where the inquest was held. The inquest brought out the above facts, and the coroner rendered a verdict of death by drowning. Chanley was a son of John Chanley, a well known farmer who resides near Kyana. The grief-stricken man came to Huntingburg Thursday evening and took charge of his son's remains after the inquest. Yesterday morning the remains were taken to Kyana for burial. --Huntingburg Independent.
