Martin Baker, 1740-1812; [Thomas4, Martin 3, John2, Martin1]

Martin Baker, Sr. was an officer of the Charlotte County Militia during the American Revolution. He owned land in Charlotte County around 1777.

William Griffith was living there, and according to tax lists and other documents, it's known that he left Charlotte in 1783 and moved to Greenbrier County, West Virginia.

In 1787 Martin Baker with his family moved from Charlotte County, merely passing through Greenbrier County, and picked up William Griffith and family and together they came into Kentucky. They traveled by flatboat down the Ohio to Louisville and then overland to Nicholas County, settling along Steele's Run in the Headquarters/Hooktown vicinity.*
