Daughter of William Edwin Symes and Ellen (Freeman) Symes,
Peg was born in Slough, England and came to the United States in 1946 where she settled in Santa Cruz. Prior to coming to this country she served in the Royal Fire Service during World War Two and also studied to become a nurse. After coming to Santa Cruz she worked at the Sister's Hospital and also Dominican Hospital. However first and foremost she was described by her children as a "good mom". She always had a keen interest in how her children were doing, she always put them first and was always there for them. She was also a devoted and involved grandmother and most recently a new great grandmother.
Peg was a member of Holy Cross Church where she participated in the choir, which she loved. She was a member of the Monterey Bay Dog Training Club, where she served in a number of capacities. She was an avid dog lover, having raised Labrador Retrievers for many years. She enjoyed many years and countless hours obedience and agility training her dogs.
She is survived by her daughter, Denise Martini-Hollen of Athol, ID; two sons, John Martini of Seal Beach, CA and David Martini of Aptos; she is also survived by six grandchildren and one great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Martini in 2002.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Holy Cross Church, 126 High St, Santa Cruz, CA Thursday September 7, 2006 at 11:00 am. A private interment will follow at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Benito & Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel.
