Elizabeth "Betty" Howell Aberly, 87, died Monday, June 11, 2012 at the Hospice Home of Wake County in Raleigh.

She was a native and a lifelong resident of New Bern, NC, except for the time she lived in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, from 1951-1957. Betty was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church in New Bern and a member of the choir for over 30 years. Betty attended Peace College with the class of 1944. She spent most of her career working at the architecture firm of Stephens & Cardelli (later, Stephens & Francis) from 1957 until her retirement in 2001. She loved her work and the people with whom she worked. Betty spent much of her life caring for family members, including her mother and three aunts.She is predeceased by her parents, Hazel Clare Taylor Aberly and John Milton Aberly and two brothers, John Milton Aberly, Jr. and William Franklin Aberly.

She is survived by her niece, Lane Aberly Mitterling and husband Norman Mitterling, Jr., great nephews Norman Mitterling III and wife Linda, John Robert Mitterling and wife Amanda, and great great nieces Laura Elizabeth, Marianna Lane, Nicole Ann, Margaret Lane, Sarah Bryan, Olivia Sanson and Mary Caldwell. She is also survived by her nephews William J. Aberly, wife Nancye, Robert M. Aberly, great nephews William and wife Allison, Robert and wife Jodie and great niece Tracy Donaldson.

The family will have a burial service at Cedar Grove Cemetery on Saturday, June 16th at 10:30 AM, and the memorial service will follow at First Presbyterian Church at 11:00 AM. The family will receive visitors after the memorial service in the Session House at the church.
