Songwriter, composer and screenwriter. Son of William Adair and Madge Cochran. Thomas and Matt Dennis whom he met in 1940 was hired by Tommy Dorsey and wrote songs for Bing Crosby, Dinah Shore and Frank Sinatra. He wrote many hit songs some are "Let's Get Away From It All," "The Night We Called It a Day," "Violets for Your Furs" and "Paul Bunyan". He worked with Composer Gordon Jenkins for the Auto-Lite radio show in 1944 and in 1949 he wrote lyrics for the Broadway production of "Along Fifth Avenue" until it ended. In the 50's he worked for Disney in Los Angeles and then went on to partner with James B Allardice to have a successful career with writing sitcoms. Thomas was nominated for an Academy Award and an Emmy Award for Outstanding Individual Achievement in Music. In 2010 he awarded and Inducted into the 41st Annual Songwriters Hall of fame in the category Songwriting Team of Tom Adair & Matt Dennis, contributions to the worldwide landscape of music through an extraordinary expression of lyrics and composition.
