Wakefield, Kansas ----- Former Emprian Edwin E. Maddern of Wakefield died Wednesday at a hospital in Manhattan.

Mr. Maddern worked for Target Lighting in Kansas City, Mo., before he retired in 1979.

The son of Thomas and Rosa Pearl Shields Maddern, Edwin E. Maddern was born Jan. 21, 1915, in Oklahoma. He was retired in Emporia and had lived at Wakefield since 1o97o5. He and Doris Kiewend were married March 9, 1974, in Wichita.

Mr. Maddern is survived by his wife; a son, Edwin E. Maddern II of Hays; two daughters, Margaret Paxon of Wichita Falls, Tex., and Barbara Jenkins of Pueblo, Colo.; a step-daughter, Janet Small of Greers Ferry, Ark.; three sisters, Nidayvonne Steel of Kansas City, Trudy Robbins of Larned and Milly Karagon of Long Beach, Calif.; 11 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. Rosemary Spalding and Arlene Potter of Emporia are surviving nieces.

Mr. Maddern was a member of the First Christian Church of Wakefield and Wakefield Loge 396 A.F. and A.M. He had been mayor of Wakefield from 1979 until 1986. He also was a member of the Midian Shrine at Wichita and Kansas Tourism Association.

The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the First Christian Church in Wakefield. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery in Wakefield.
