Elsie Goodale 1899-1998

CLINTON - Elsie Dunham Goodale, 99, of Clinton, died Tuesday evening, Oct. 20, 1998, at a Waterville nursing home. She was born March 4, 1899, in Foxcroft, daughter of the late Charles and Belle (Dow) Dunham. She was a graduate of Foxcroft Academy, Class of 1918. As a young lady, Mrs. Goodale worked as an operator for New England Telephone Co. and also was a store clerk at various drug stores in the area.

She married John Lavern Goodale, June 7, 1920, and then in 1923, they purchased their first home on Railroad Street and lived there together until his death on May 1, 1968. She continued to live there until 1990. She then lived with her daughter, Eunice Miles, until her death.

She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Fireside Chapter 103, for 74 years, and served as past worthy matron and treasurer. She was also a member

of Daughters of American Revalution, Pine Cone Club of Clinton, Clinton Baptist Church and Philathea Club.

In their younger years, Mr. and Mrs. Goodale enjoyed the outdoors, which included camping, fishing and hunting. She also enjoyed sewing, knitting, crafts, and cooking for her family. Mrs. Goodale was a devoted mother, grandmother and friend.

One brother, George Dunham; three sisters, Hazel Chandler, Ethel Boss and Elizabeth Sullivan; a granddaughter, Jenna Armstrong; and a son-in-law, Hervey Kimball, predeceased her.

Survivors include her three daughters, Marjorie Kimball, of North Waterford, Eunice Miles and her husband, Andrew, of Clinton, and Jacquelyn and her husband, Dr. Paul Jabar, of Augusta; a sister-in-law, Margaret Dunham; 18 grandchildren, 23

great-grandchildren, three great­great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, at Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, 107 Main St., Fairfield.
