Mr. Walker moved his family to Alton, IL. in 1901 to work at the Illinois Glass Plant. They lived at 1821 Evergreen. In 1906 he started work for the Alton Street railway system. He continued as a motorman and conductor for 27 years until his retirement. A front page story in the Alton Evening Telegraph Oct. 6, 1930 tells of Mr. Walker being the victim of a robber. He was shot in the chin at close range but able to drive the streetcar to an area to get help. Even then he requested that he be allowed to take the cash box to the office before going to the hospital.
His children are Goldie (Walker) Dodge, and 3 sons, Clyle, Chester and Eldon.
Until his final illness, Mr. Walker walked to Upper Alton to visit with friends. He and his wife were long time members of Edwards Street Assembly of God Church. Mrs. Walker died two years earlier.
