Civil War Union Army Soldier. Mustered in as a Private in Company B, 7th Vermont Volunteer Infantry on February 12, 1862. Promoted to Corporal on June 1, 1864, he served through the end of the war, and was honorably mustered out on March 14, 1866 at Brownsville, Texas.

On December 17, 1891 he fled for a US Army Invalid Veteran Pension (Application #1077756, Certificate #905318).
On May 15, 1915 his wife, Hannah A. Dodge, filed for a US Army Widow's Pension (Application #1047865, Certificate #792578).
