Gwyn "Sonny" "Black" Blackard, 74, a native of Red Bay, Alabama and resident of the St. Charles community died Monday June 3, 2013.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until funeral time Friday at Thibodaux Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with burial at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Cemetery in Chackbay.
He is survived by his wife, Alice Sanchez Blackard; children, Sonny "Cody" Blackard and fiance Priscilla, Javonte Blackard, Julia Blackard, Sonnie Lynn Blackard and wife Jenny, Michael "Mike" Blackard, Fonda Beaver and husband Pat, Sarah Blackard, Freddie Blackard and Chad Sanchez and wife Brandy; sisters, Elois Blackard Causey and husband Cline and Elaine Blackard Brown; brother Hoyt Blackard Sr. and wife Marylane; and 20 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Doyle Hubert Blackard and Julia Wright Blackard; grandparents, John Wright, Maratha Sing Leton, Hubert Blackard and Clemie Gulic; and one brother, Louis Blackard.
